Capital of Urban Development

Hamburg Ministers Tschentscher and Stapelfeldt to visit EXPO REAL

Capital of Urban Development

The international real estate industry will be showcasing its projects and expertise from 5 -7 October 2015 at Europe’s largest trade fair, EXPO REAL 2015 in Munich. This year, Hamburg’s presentation will focus on the city’s huge urban development projects that have been launched to adjust the city state’s urban infrastructure to the growing population. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Hamburg Minister of Urban Development and Housing: “With numbers of inhabitants constantly rising, also housing, social and transport infrastructure, and job offers will have to increase. Numerous large urban development projects will help to meet these challenges: the development of Hamburg’s east, Mitte Altona, HafenCity, and, last but not least, Hamburg’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 are just some of them. Hamburg is the capital of urban development.” The pavilion of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region is shared by 57 exhibitors and logo partners. The stands of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein have teamed up to showcase their trade fair participation in a joint magazine. The Hamburg Senate will be represented by Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Hamburg Minister of Finance, and Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeld, Hamburg Minister of Urban Development and Housing. At the second day of the trade fair, the Hamburg Minster Stapelfeldt will be discussing “The 2024 Olympics in Hamburg: Challenges and Chances of the Master Plan“ with Munich’s director of construction, Torsten Brune.

Cities are booming all around the world. Especially younger people are attracted to cities in the search of good training placements and jobs. In the past two years, Hamburg enjoyed a growth in population by approx. 27,000 inhabitants. Also in the medium term, Hamburg will continue to expect a substantial rise in population, a development also influenced by the large number of refugees expected to permanently stay in the Elbe city. This development brings along major challenges for urban development. Showcasing Hamburg’s assets and projects at EXPO REAL is thus more vital than ever. Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, managing director HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation: “For us as Hamburg’s business developers, the real estate industry is not only an important partner in regard to the provision of commercial and industry, but also when it comes to acquiring new companies.”

The implementation requires intensive communication in order to exploit Hamburg’s inner city construction potential today and in future with the consent of all parties involved. Still, inner city densification and the preservation of Hamburg’s open spaces in their high quality represent goals of equal rank in this pursuit. At EXPO REAL, Hamburg’s municipal partners HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, Landesbetrieb Immobilienmanagement und Grundvermögen (Hamburg’s state-owned property management company), IBA Hamburg, HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation, and the Hamburg Ministry for Urban Development and Housing will thus be looking forward to talk to old and new partners.

Furthermore, the HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation will present at EXPO REAL its fully relaunched real estate database HDB, set up for private commercial properties at www.hdb-hamburg.de. Redesigned in a fresh, contemporary look, it now offers an even wider range of properties, easily accessible by the new OpenImmo interface. Both offers listed in the past and new entries will now benefit from the enhanced and better visibility by the improved access. HWF Managing Director Dr. Rolf Strittmatter: "Sufficient affordable commercial space is a prerequisite for Hamburg’s economy to grow. To supply a company with the premises needed is thus a central task of business development, especially in a city like Hamburg. With the new HDB, it is now much easier to bring to bring both sides together: companies seeking properties, and providers of real estate.“

Hamburg will participate at EXPO REAL with 640 square metres large stand at its accustomed location in hall B2. In total, 57 companies and institutions will be sharing Hamburg’s joint stand, reflecting the entire value chain of Hamburg’s real estate industry. New stand partners will include Maßmann & Co. Handelsimmobilien GmbH, SAGA Siedlungs-Aktiengesellschaft Hamburg, Sparkasse Holstein, BRL Boege Rohde Luebbehuesen Rechtsanwälte, Behrendt Group, and the TAS Group. Back again at the Hamburg stand are Kervita and Hamburg Airport.
