HamburgAmbassador network to be expanded

Honorary Hamburg representatives are now also active in London, San Francisco, and Vienna

HamburgAmbassador network to be expanded

HamburgAmbassadors are active in an innovative global network to boost the awareness and appreciation of Hamburg internationally. The honorary representatives promote Hamburg in their respective circles and advertise the city’s assets in their social sphere. Parallel to the Day of Overseas Trade, the HamburgAmbassadors meet in Hamburg once a year to gain insights into the city’s latest developments and to gather information on Hamburg’s future-oriented projects. In the course of this year’s meeting, Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz appointed new HamburgAmbassadors in London, San Francisco, and Vienna. "The HamburgAmbassadors form a network that opens up new ways in city marketing. The global network of high-profile personalities adds to Hamburg’s tradition of international ties a level of personal involvement and engagement." The network today comprises 35 HamburgAmbassadors. Focal regions are North America, East Asia, and Northern Europe. The HamburgAmbassador programme is co-ordinated by the HamburgAmbassador Office at HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation mbH. Dietrich von Albedyll, CEO of HWF, says: "In the acquisition of international companies, the HamburgAmbassadors offer vital support. They open doors and often provide helpful input in regard to potential companies wishing to relocate, expand or set up a business in Hamburg."

These are the newly appointed HamburgAmbassadors:

Furthermore, they will also participate at the 65th Day of Overseas Trade. Each year, the HamburgAmbassadors also meet with members of the Economic Council of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region in order to communicate the region’s assets, too.

Hamburg Ambassadors

HamburgAmbassadors are private individuals with close ties to Hamburg. Permanently living abroad, they occupy an outstanding position in the economy, culture or society of their country of residence. Hamburg’s First Mayor appoints potential candidates to the position of an "Honorary Representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg", thus the official title for the office used by the nominees in their promotional work abroad. Next to the Senate’s Chancellery and Hamburg Marketing GmbH, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation are involved in the nomination process. Proposals can also be submitted by Hamburg’s public authorities and institutions.

The honorary representatives advertise Hamburg in their respective circles. They promote the Hanseatic city at receptions by giving lectures and talks, and by annually hosting a "Hamburg evening" for friends, business partners and decision-makers. In addition, HamburgAmbassadors Hamburg are actively involved in the planning of trade fairs, conventions, and congresses, and support the preparations of Hamburg’s activities abroad through the contacts of their networks.
