33 honorary ambassadors to promote Hamburg throughout the world
Ten Years of HamburgAmbassador Programme
The HamburgAmbassador programme is celebrating its ten-year anniversary. The HamburgAmbassadors form the international network of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Founded to increase the international awareness and perception of the Elbe city, there are currently 33 ambassadors in 21 countries promoting Hamburg’s assets.
Hamburg's First Mayor Olaf Scholz says: "The HamburgAmbassadors give our city a human face. They successfully shaped Hamburg’s profile in the world, and significantly enhanced Hamburg’s reputation abroad." Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation and Hamburg Marketing GmbH, adds: "The HamburgAmbassadors have managed to take Hamburg’s assets to the world’s large cities and to increase Hamburg’s strengths in international competition. For this, they deserve respect and gratitude." The Ambassador programme is managed by the HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation.
HamburgAmbassadors are personalities closely associated with the Hanseatic city, but living permanently abroad, where they hold prominent positions in the economy, culture or society. They promote the city at business meetings, by talks or so-called "Hamburg evenings" for friends, business partners and top decision-makers. Moreover, HamburgAmbassadors are involved in the planning of trade fairs, conferences, congresses and receptions, and assist in preparing the city’s foreign activities by their networks and contacts. They are appointed to their honorary office by Hamburg’s First Mayor. Their official title is "Honorary Representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg."
Until 8 May 2015, the annual Ambassador Meeting will take place in Hamburg, where the honorary representatives will gather information on current developments in the Hanseatic city. Their fully packed agenda includes, inter alia, talks with the editors of Spiegel Online and meetings with managers from Google’s German headquarters in Hamburg. Also, Prof. Dr. Hans Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, Chief Executive Officer of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, will be presenting the prospects of Hamburg’s economy in 2015.
On 6 May 2015 at 11.30 a.m., Wolfgang Schmidt, Secretary of State, will be hosting a panel discussion at city hall on “Hamburg – metropolis of the future or still only a hidden champion?".
