EU Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger to visit the Hamburg booth
Hamburg presents itself as a liveable waterfront metropolis
The Hamburg Metropolitan Region presents itself at MIPIM, the world’s biggest property show at Cannes in southern France, as a liveable waterfront metropolis and solid market for investments of the national and international real estate industry. From 12-14 March 2013, 21 partners (2012: 16) will display current projects and innovative services at the joint Hamburg booth. The fair participation will also be used to acquaint industry visitors with two large events taking place in Hamburg this year: the International Building Exhibition IBA Hamburg and the international garden show igs 2013.
A major highlight of Hamburg’s trade fair participation will be an event hosted by the ULI Urban Land Institutes and ZIA – Central Real Estate Committee at the Hamburg stand. Asking the question "Best practice in energy policy – is Germany leading the field?", Günther H. Oettinger, EU Commissioner for energy will discuss the subject with Dr. Andreas Mattner, president of ZIA – Central Real Estate Committee, and Joe Montgomery, CEO of ULI Europe - Urban Land Institute. The Senate of Hamburg will be represented at MIPIM by the Secretary of State in Hamburg Ministry of Finance, Jens Lattmann. The Hamburg booth is organised by HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation.
"Large cities have always been the pacemakers of modern developments. Those wanting to know what society may look like in 20 or 30 years will be able to get some impressions in today’s major cities of Germany and Europe. In this context, MIPIM is one of the most important market places. At the banks of the Alster and Elbe rivers, the economic signals are set for growth. This fact particularly applies to the real estate industry. Since the inauguration of the new metro line to HafenCity, the demand for office space has significantly risen in the area. The decision to extend the line to the East opens up new perspectives to the real estate economy“, says Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz. The mayor continues: ”Our city is open to innovative approaches in urban development. And Hamburg knows that ambitious climate protection targets can be achieved by implementing new technologies to make the consumption of resources more efficient while increasing the quality of life of the city. We create perspectives in Hamburg – for citizens as well as for national and international investors."
"Hamburg’s companies head to Cannes with tailwind from the real estate market", adds Jutta Ludwig, CEO of HWF Hamburg Business Development Corporation. "With the global economic growth slowing down and the economies around the Mediterranean in crisis, the real estate industry increasingly focuses on markets that are not overheated by speculation and still generate solid return."
The economic framework in Hamburg is perfect for the property industry. "Conditions for the future are excellent in Hamburg, and better than in any other German state. Due to our geography and the port, we are not fixed on Europe. The city will thus benefit from the upswing in Asia and America," said Thomas Straubhaar, director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics. Jutta Ludwig, CEO of HWF, adds: "Hamburg has strong positions in growth industries such as aerospace, logistics, renewable energy or IT and media. Also, the city of Hamburg is a magnet for well-educated professionals and companies, attracting them by its high quality of life. These facts also provide best conditions for the commercial and the residential real estate market."
For the first time, Hamburg will showcase its assets in Cannes at a new location in Lerins Hall in proximity to the stands of attractive competitors such as North Rhine-Westphalia, Luxemburg, Gdansk, Kiev and Warsaw as well as the brokers of Jones Lang LaSalle. Many of the partners at the Hamburg booth are first-time exhibitors at MIPIM. These include Deutsche Immobilien AG, Dr. Helmut Greve Bau- und Boden AG, Grossmann & Berger GmbH, Hamburger Sparkasse AG, Procom Invest GmbH & Co. KG, Quantum Immobilien AG, Wölbern Invest KG and Europa-Center AG.
