New package of measures to help young, high-growth companies to settle in Hamburg

Scaleup Landing Pad

A new package of measures is set to attract international start-ups to the "Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg" and will be launched Tuesday (June 21, 2022) in Hamburg's Digital Hub Logistics. The package targets so-called scale-ups or high-growth start-ups that have been on the market for between three and ten years and which have not yet done business in Hamburg.

Emphasis on mobility and logistics

This latest scheme should put scale-ups in contact with firms across the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and help them develop their businesses successfully, according to Hamburg Invest. Emphasis is on companies in sustainable mobility and logistics as the city and its port are already considered hotspots of these sectors. The city hosted the ITS World Congress in 2021 and is a testing ground for autonomous driving and urban air mobility.

"Many companies in Hamburg  are working on more sustainable and efficient solutions for transporting people and goods," said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics. "The Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg will make an important contribution to attracting young companies with innovative solutions to the city. Hamburg is one of the best places in Europe for innovative young companies because hardly any other place offers so much concentrated know-how in key, forward-looking technologies," according to Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest.

Extensive offers for scale-ups

Participating scale-ups receive personalised business development support, housing and workspaces, HR services and location advice tailored to their needs, e.g., active referral of scale-ups to business partners and investors, market and location analysis as well as administrative support. "The landing pad is unique in Germany in terms of dequipment and demand-orientated flexibility and will strengthen Hamburg's innovation ecosystem," Strittmatter pointed out. Interested scale-ups can submit their online application by the deadline of August 1, 2022. An expert jury will evaluate the submissions and select the recipients.
